The best fish and chips in the world? We wait with bated breath as fire shuts the Edinburgh branch.

Excuse for a picture of this lovely fish.

After my blog on fire the other day I got a great response. Thanks.
One side effect of the fire on Leith Walk is the temporary closure of The Tailend Fish Bar.
Tam Cowan of The Daily Record called this the best fish and chip shop in the world. On that rather extreme recommendation I schlepped down there myself recently to review it for Simonseeks.com and it transpires agree with him 100%.

All perky fresh, flaky, fish served breadcrumbed, battered or grilled.
Chips that took me back to sitting in the back of my folks car when we used to drive all the way to Inverbervie from Aberdeen for what was then acknowledged to be the best fish and chips in Scotland.  Real home cut, chunky, beef dripping tasty delights. Happy chippy memories.

Of course you can get your fish and chips to go but you can also sit in their lovely wee restaurant next door where you can indulge in 2 course lunch for  £7.95
What?

Yes it is a case of black armbands on until it reopens it’s doors which according to The Tailend  will be a few weeks and when it does there will be a collective sigh of relief. Pining as we are at the moment there is aye the option of heading to St. Andrews where the original fish and chip shop thrives. In all truth the mere thought of that fish and those chips has me checking my diary to see if I can make it up there this afternoon. Off to fill up the car.

The business are saying 2 – 3 weeks until it opens. Watch this space. I’ll keep you up to date here and on twitter: @alisonsdiary
